Description:

ESY Teacher. Extended School year is for students in grades PK-Transition (18-21yrs.) who qualify for ESY services per their IEP’s. The goal of the program is to prevent regression of learned skills during the Summer months. ESY will be located at Grand Valley Center for Family Learning and Grand Valley Middle School.

The primary function of the ESY teacher is to assist in the implementation of ESY related IEP goals, objectives, and accommodations for students who participate in ESY services, per IEP’s. ESY paraprofessionals work under the direction of the teacher and IEP service providers to support students throughout their school day, ensuring a safe and productive learning environment. The ESY Paraprofessional answers directly to the ESY Teacher and the ESY Site Supervisor.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Implement and collect data according to the students Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Plan and provide specially designed instruction in accordance with students’ IEP goals, and monitor progress with ongoing data collection.
  • Work cooperatively with ESY and Summer school staff
  • Identify individual student learning needs and develop strategies to address those needs. This will be demonstrated through knowledge of students and demonstrating flexibility and responsiveness.
  • Provide clear and intentional focus on subject matter content and curriculum through knowledge of content and pedagogy, setting instructional outcomes, knowledge of resources and designing coherent instruction.
  • Foster and manage a safe, positive learning environment through creating an environment of respect and rapport, managing classroom procedures, student behavior and organizing a safe physical space for student learning.
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents and the school community through effective and ongoing communication.
  • Exhibit collaborative and collegial practices focused on improving instructional practice and student learning.
  • Participate in a professional community, grow and develop professionally and demonstrate professionalism.
  • Establish student growth goals to ensure student growth over time.
Qualifications

Teacher License preferred

Physical Demands
  • Ability to work in classroom and school environment for extended periods of time including, but not limited to, sitting, standing, lifting, bending and reaching
