Summary

SalaryAnnual pay ranges from $49,960 to $99,314 and varies by location.
Responsibilities- Perform mathematical work assignments within a scientific area or applied field of mathematics.
- Apply general scientific theories and mathematical principles to conduct work assignments.
- Make independent decisions on standard practices and procedures, modify work efforts as needed, and recommend courses of action for technical problems not covered by standard practices.
- Support projects and studies assigned to higher‑graded mathematicians or scientists.
- Assist senior mathematicians or scientists in solving problems requiring diverse data sources and disciplines.
- U.S. citizenship, nationals, or allegiance to the U.S. is required.
- Male applicants must be registered for Selective Service.
- Secret security clearance is required; higher clearance may be required.
- Eligibility for NSF, CUD, or VA benefits confirmed at application.
- Remote work is not available; telework is not eligible.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Reimbursement for relocation expenses is not provided.
- Internship position; full‑time.
- Successful completion of the training plan is required, with a one‑year probationary period.
- Grade Point Average of 2.95 or higher (or 3.45 for certain majors).

BASIC REQUIREMENT: Degree in mathematics or equivalent coursework with at least 24 semester hours in mathematics.
- GS‑7: 4‑year bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) of GPA 2.95 or higher, or 3.45 for major courses.
- GS‑9: 2 years of graduate education leading to a master’s degree with GPA 2.95 or higher (or 3.45).
- Knowledge of mathematical methods and scientific principles.
- Ability to analyze complex problems and identify solutions.
- Clear communication skills, oral and written.
- Computer proficiency.
