Experience & Education Requirements0–2 years of experience in mechanical or piping design
Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent training in mechanical design, drafting, or related field preferred
The Mechanical Designer – Piping I supports the development and documentation of 3D piping and equipment designs for retrofit, environmental, and new power generation projects. This entry-level role involves close collaboration with engineers and multidisciplinary design teams to ensure safe, efficient, and code-compliant design solutions.
Key ResponsibilitiesProduce 3D piping and equipment layouts for industrial facility projects
Generate 2D orthographic and isometric drawings, P&IDs, pipe support designs, and material take-offs
Assist in creating and maintaining 3D models using industry-standard software (preferably Plant 3D)
Collaborate with engineers and other designers across disciplines to ensure design integration and efficiency
Interpret and apply relevant codes and standards to ensure design compliance
Gather and document field data to support design deliverables and development
Support the design process from initial concept through final documentation
Basic knowledge of mechanical piping systems design, particularly for new construction and retrofit work in power generation or heavy industrial environments
Familiarity with 3D modeling tools for piping layout and system design (experience with Plant 3D is preferred)
Understanding of piping codes and industry standards (e.g., ASME, ANSI)
Strong attention to detail, technical drawing skills, and problem-solving ability
Willingness to perform field data collection and site visits as required
Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative design team
