Position: Health Physicist (NPG) B - 518139

Job Summary

This position is a qualified, experienced, professional-level staff health physicist who complies with the plant’s Technical Specifications staff manning requirements. The incumbent may work independently and may perform all of the duties and responsibilities of the Health Physicist Senior Level position. This fully competent health physicist independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard health physics techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgment in the development of technical solutions and programs.

Other duties related to the department’s assigned responsibilities may be required to be performed as assigned by supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities

May direct the activities of other health physicists as assigned by supervisor.

Skills And Proficiencies

Knowledge of TVA Radiation Safety Program procedures used in radiation safety monitoring.

  • Basic Computer Skills Are Required For This Position.
Minimum Qualifications
  • B.S. degree in health physics, engineering, chemistry, environmental science, physics, physical science, life science or computer science or a comparable field of study.
  • Four or more years of professional level radiation protection experience with at least 2 of those years’ experience at Nuclear Reactor Facility.
  • Certification by the American Board of Health Physics or National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists or a M.S. degree are desirable.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access and S-3 and S-4 medical qualifications when applicable.
  • Must be able and willing to assume “on-call” rotational assignments which may include 24 hour-a-day, 7 day-a-week availability.
  • Must be willing and medically able to work rotating shifts and maximum overtime permitted by TVA procedures during peak periods.
  • Must be able and willing to travel to plant locations as required when performing assigned tasks and, as necessary, to be temporarily assigned to a field location.

The position requires use of protective clothing and work in areas with elevated temperatures, high noise backgrounds, asbestos, radiation, and other industrial hazards.
