Systems Engineer, Cybersecurity
The Director of Network Engineering is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and operation of our client's fiber network. This role drives network strategy and execution across XGS‑PON access, optical transport, and IP/MPLS core infrastructure ensuring performance, scalability, and reliability that exceed customer expectations.
This is a hands‑on leadership position combining technical expertise with strategic oversight. The Director will partner with internal teams and external vendors to deliver secure, scalable, and high‑performing fiber‑based connectivity across Alabama. The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of service‑provider network environments, strong operational discipline, and the ability to lead through influence and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities- Architect and deploy end‑to‑end solutions for XGS‑PON FTTH, IP/MPLS core, and DWDM transport (lit and dark fiber).
- Maintain capacity models, growth forecasts, and scalability roadmaps.
- Define and maintain design standards, documentation (as‑built), MOPs/SOPs, and software lifecycle roadmaps across all network domains.
- Serve as Tier‑III escalation point for incident triage, root‑cause analysis, and postmortems.
- Drive operational excellence through proactive monitoring, KPI ownership, and reliability improvements.
- Participate in on‑call rotations and coordinate after‑hours maintenance and change activities.
- Lead technical relationships with key vendors and partners, including Nokia, 1
Finity NOC, and regional ISPs. - Define SLAs, track performance metrics, and ensure vendor accountability for service delivery.
- Evaluate and implement managed Altiplano options and integrations to optimize network operations.
- Oversee data and workflow integration across core systems, including COS Business Engine, Vetro, COS FSM, Net Suite, and Fujitsu services for Nokia Altiplano.
- Maintain data quality and enable SLA, capacity, and financial reporting across platforms.
- Enforce ITIL‑based change management practices, including risk assessments, approvals, communication, and rollback planning.
- Maintain configuration backups, audit trails, and documentation to support compliance requirements.
- Partner with security teams and vendors to remediate vulnerabilities, manage patches, and uphold network security standards.
- Partner closely with internal teams, including Construction, PMO, and NOC, to ensure alignment between design, deployment, and operations.
- Promote standardization, shared playbooks, and best practices across network functions to enhance efficiency and reliability.
- Optical Transport: Nokia 1830 PSS-16II & PSS-8, Wave Suite NOC for optical operations.
- 7–10+ years of progressive experience in service‑provider or FTTH networking environments.
- Proven expertise in the design, deployment, and operations of large‑scale PON, optical, and IP/MPLS networks.
