Mortgage Field Services Inspector

FAR Inspections is looking for highly motivated individuals to perform residential occupancy verifications on behalf of mortgage lenders. As an independent contractor, you can earn a predictable full‑time or supplemental income with a flexible schedule. Experience with mortgage field inspections is not required, but an ability to effectively manage time and meet deadlines is crucial. Mortgage lenders require periodic updates on their properties. They send out independent contractors to verify that a property is occupied and to report on its general condition using a mobile application. Most inspections are exterior only; about 10% require interior photos after the property has gone vacant.

• Most common type of inspection should only take 5–6 minutes.
• Complete the inspection within 4 days after it is assigned.
• Report general property conditions and determine occupancy based on industry standards.
• Take 9 + photos of the property with brief comments.
• Complete a short form in an app.
• Spend extended periods driving while making numerous stops during the day in the assigned territory.

• Computer with an internet connection.
• Reliable vehicle (good gas mileage is a plus, as you will pay for your own gas).
• Smartphone (Android or iPhone).
• Printer.
• Pass a standard background check using a valid driver’s license.

This is a 1099 position. Each inspection has a flat rate that varies based on county and volume. Although you are paid per inspection, the job is equivalent to $30‑$40 per hour. Depending on the county and whether it is urban or rural, you will complete anywhere from 20 to 500 inspections per month working 2–30 hours per week. Lower volume counties have higher rates and higher volume counties have lower rates.

The work is consistent month‑to‑month, and you can earn more as you become established, increase availability, or cover a larger territory.

No additional mileage reimbursement above the flat fee per inspection.
