* Maintain an awareness of events and activities taking place in the area of assignment as well as on campus, including attending events when practical.
* Establish personal and professional relationships with residents in area of assignment.
* Actively promote an environment in which individual students’ rights and the Standards of Residence are continually upheld.
* Develop and implement new ideas and concepts to improve the quality of life within the Residence Halls.
* Submit timely, accurate, and concise reports to keep the Assistant Director of Housing & Residence Life apprised of hall events.
* Establish and maintain a Resident Assistant semester duty schedule for daily supervision of the Residence Halls, including evenings, weekends, and holiday breaks.
* Understand and disseminate emergency procedures and guidelines to paraprofessional staff, residents, and outside cooperating agencies.
* Serve as part of an on-call rotation to respond to and support paraprofessional staff members through emergencies, urgent matters, and policy violations on campus.
* Collaborate with local and college authorities in responding to emergencies.
* Set, post, and maintain both in-building office hours and office hours in the Housing Office daily during normal business hours. Evening office hours are encouraged.
* This position requires a non-traditional work schedule by providing duty coverage for the assigned area, which may include weekends and holidays.
* Bachelor’s Degree in related field
* Two (2) years of experience in Residence Life or Student Affairs
* Experience living in campus housing.
* Demonstrated desire to positively influence the lives of students and create a positive community that is conducive to academic success.
* Proven excellence in organizational skills, sensitivity for a robust student population, and an ability to work in collaboration with students, faculty, and staff.
* Knowledge of college student development (theory and practice).
* Demonstrated commitment to supporting the needs of students from underrepresented populations.
* Experience implementing programs and services geared toward meeting the needs of students from underrepresented backgrounds.
