Job Overview

Golden Valley Electric Association is seeking a Controls Engineer (I, II, or III) to support the safe and reliable operation of the Healy Power Plant. The role involves administering and maintaining control systems, troubleshooting, collaborating with plant personnel, and contributing to system improvements, documentation, and data analysis within a fast‑paced industrial environment.

Salary

$78,705 – $126,585 per year, depending on level (I, II, III).

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot control systems at the Healy Power Plant.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams, operations staff, and external vendors to develop technical solutions.
  • Document system improvements, conduct data analysis, and contribute to safety and reliability reviews.
  • Assist in system improvements and safety‑critical updates.
Qualifications
  • Four‑year degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Valid Alaska driver's license.
  • Experience with ABB Symphony and Allen Bradley systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with coal combustion, steam systems, power generation, and Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, analyze technical processes, and develop engineered solutions.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team under pressure.
Additional Requirements
  • Proficiency with control systems used in electrical utility, GMS/EMS, or industrial process environments.
