Master Stylist

OVERVIEW

At Ulta Beauty, the Master Stylist engages with guests, consults on their hair care needs, and recommends products and services. The role emphasizes the guest’s total look, delivering quality professional services while supporting store performance, guest experience, and operational compliance.

The Master Stylist engages with guests, provides expert hair services, and supports the Experience Manager and Assistant Services Manager focusing on performance, people, and process. Passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, and product knowledge are essential.

Performance

• Perform a full range of hair services, including cutting, coloring, styling, extensions, and ear piercing where applicable.
• Meet or exceed a weekly sales goal of $1250 and other productivity metrics.
• Conduct product demonstrations to drive guest service and sales.
• Support in‑store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives.
• Stay informed on industry trends, products, and services and share knowledge with guests.
• Maintain prompt, regular attendance.

People

• Develop guest relationships through consultations and retail/service recommendations.
• Serve all guests, including walk‑in guests, in a timely and efficient manner.
• Partner with skin therapists and the retail team for a total‑store guest experience.
• Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.
• Attend mandatory trainings and meetings for continuous professional development.

Process

• Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty policies, procedures, and standards.
• Follow all safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures.
• Use booking and clientele systems to schedule return services and events.
• Communicate any supply needs to the Experience Manager.
• Maintain store operational standards, including cleanliness of all salon and sales areas.
• Adhere to the Ulta Beauty dress code.
• Protect company assets through loss prevention best practices.
• Execute other operational tasks as directed.

Education

• Cosmetology license.

Experience

• Previous relevant work experience is required.

Skills

• Proficiency with salon techniques for cutting, coloring, texturing, styling, extensions, makeup, and ear piercing services.
• Proficiency using equipment and chemicals necessary for technical work.
• Ability to recommend and sell professional hair care and makeup products.
• Strong communication skills.
• Independent worker with teamwork capability.
• Capacity to build and maintain strong customer relationships and clientele.

Special Position Requirements

• Work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Working Conditions
