Position: Clerk of Court 2 (41-1049) Prince of Wales
Location: Craig

This Position

Provides technical support, leadership, and supervision for all clerk’s office functions, including processing criminal, civil, small claims, minor offense, probate, and children’s cases. Manages an assigned caseload and ensures efficient caseflow management, accurate court records, proper accounting practices, jury management, and compliance with court procedures and customer service standards.

Oversees caseflow within the Prince of Wales Court by analyzing performance, identifying improvements, preparing required reports, and ensuring adherence to time standards. Reviews and applies statutes, rules, and policies; collaborates with ACA and judges to implement new procedures; and trains staff on updates.

Participates in district-wide projects and statewide committees, working closely with court leadership to support consistent practices and promote the efficient administration of justice.

Manages all personnel functions for a two‑person clerical team, including hiring, training, evaluation, discipline, and compliance with administrative and personnel policies. Provides operational coverage, maintains broad knowledge of court functions, conducts staff meetings, and handles employee complaints and grievances in accordance with established procedures.

Manages and investigates complaints, serving as a liaison between the Prince of Wales Trial Court, state agencies, and local communities. Assists court leadership with assigned projects and issues. Acts as the local ADA Access Coordinator, ensuring appropriate accommodations and accessibility for individuals with disabilities.

Work Environment

Located just a three‑hour ferry ride from Ketchikan, Prince of Wales Island is a vast, rugged island home to 11 small communities. Known locally as P.O.W., the island is the perfect destination for adventurous visitors who come to Alaska to paddle, backpack, or land a trophy salmon or halibut. At 140 miles long and more than 2,230 square miles, Prince of Wales Island is the fourth largest island in the United States.

Prince of Wales Courthouse is located on the Klawock‑Hollis Highway.

Work Hours

This position works in‑person at the Prince of Wales court and is not a remote position. Full‑time court employees are scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
