Description
Working in a seafood processing and packing facility, duties include assisting in the operation, maintenance, and tending of the cannery's packing and filler machines for seafood production, including fish such as Pollock, Halibut, Pacific Cod, Black Cod, Rockfish, Herring, Salmon, and various Crab species. Responsibilities involve adjusting machine components, tension, and pressure according to fish size, post-season clean-up, and assisting with small machine maintenance projects as needed.
Work locations include OBI Alaska processing and packing facilities in Kodiak, Seward, Petersburg, Cordova, Naknek, Egegik, Dillingham, and Larsen Bay AK. Transportation to and from employer-provided housing is included.
Requirements include:
- 3 months of verifiable seafood packing and machine operation experience
- Pre-employment criminal background check (paid by employer)
- Post-hire and post-injury drug testing (paid by employer)
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, and extended shifts, including 7-day workweeks
Optional benefits include shared housing with utilities at no cost, and meals during shifts for $15/day. Payroll deduction for meals is available, with exemptions for workers with 4+ years tenure who complete 8-hour shifts.
Work hours are typically 6AM-6PM or 6PM-6AM, with varying schedules based on seafood deliveries. The minimum wage is $19.47/hour, with AK residents receiving an additional $0.50/hour. Overtime pay is $29.21/hour, with potential for additional pay based on experience, skill, market conditions, and performance.
