ZIP RIDER COURSE OPERATOR

Zip Rider Operator ensures that riders are safely prepared to participate in the world’s largest Zip Rider. Icy Strait Point’s Zip Rider is 1,400 ft high, over a mile long, moves at speeds up to 60 mph and takes approximately 90 seconds from top to bottom. The operator secures guests into harness seats at the top tower, unstraps them at the bottom tower, and manages harnesses throughout the ride.

Operators also share information about Icy Strait Point’s history, attractions, and cultural offerings with guests.

• Conduct all activities and decisions according to Icy Strait Point’s guiding principles: BAP:
  Best, Authentic, Profitable.
• Always keep safety foremost in your mind and actions when on the job.
• Securely strap guests into harness seats at the start of the ride and unstrap them at the end.
• Use a two‑check process at the top tower: one person secures the harness and one double‑checks the guest’s safety.
• Retrieve and return harnesses between the top and bottom towers.
• Teach guests about Icy Strait Point’s culture, history, tours, food and beverage venues, and retail products.
• Participate in all required training and safety meetings.
• Maintain a current First Aid/CPR certification.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Adequate knowledge or willingness to learn about Tlingit culture.
• Ability to learn a Tlingit introduction.
• Knowledge of the local area (marine life, plants, animals, birds).
• Good verbal communication; patient and able to lead groups of kids as well as adults.
• Strong commitment to safety.
• Capable of moderate physical activity including standing, walking, reaching, climbing, and lifting more than 40 lbs; able to visually identify safety hazards.
• This is a safety‑sensitive position that is subject to drug testing.
• Must be 18 years of age or older for the top tower and 16 years of age for the bottom tower.

• Able to lift 40 lbs, stand for extended periods, and walk 5+ miles daily.
• Able to lift arms and push and pull a 10‑foot pool extended to engage the return system.
• Able to lift arms to grab the harness and pull harness retrieval lines.
• Willing to live in a remote, rural community.
• Comfortable traveling by small plane or ferry to and from a remote setting.
• Able to walk and drive on gravel roads in inclement weather.
• Working long days, sometimes including 10+ hour shifts.
• Must be comfortable with heights.
