Telecom Technician

Fastwyre Broadband is hiring a Telecom Technician to provide high‑quality installation, testing, maintenance, and repair of telecommunication facilities across the community. This role includes broad technical responsibilities for telephony, video service, FTTx, internet, and wireless solutions.

Base Pay Range

$26.70/hr – $44.50/hr

Position Purpose / Summary

The Telecom Technician is committed to providing the highest quality of service to the communities, customers, and employees we serve by providing installation, testing, maintenance and repair of telecommunication facilities and equipment. The technician works in a safe manner following company policy and performs tasks without constant supervision.

Primary

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Install new broadband services (video, wireless, internet, cable modem, DSL, telephony, FTTx).
  • Respond to service orders for troubleshooting, upgrades, removals, or changes to residential or business broadband services.
  • Ensure all service orders and tasks are closed out daily.
  • Install ONTs, jacks, pedestals, terminals, splitters, taps, protectors, and grounding.
  • Maintain company inventory for items used.
  • Maintain timesheets, vehicle records, test equipment, and other company property.
  • Perform routine office maintenance and/or repair on equipment (batteries, alarms, air filters, fluid levels).
  • Locate fiber, coax, telephone, and mark cable routes.
  • Splice and repair telecom cable.
  • Climb poles and towers to install or repair telecom lines and facilities.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning cables using testing devices.
  • Change cable TV headend equipment (receivers, video ciphers, modulators, scramblers), if applicable.
  • Troubleshoot from house to headend (amplifiers, line extenders, bridges, power insertions), if applicable.
  • Install, test, maintain, and repair advanced telecom services (DDS, XDSL, T1).
  • Operate central office equipment from various manufacturers.
  • Have a basic understanding of WAN equipment, protocols, and fiber optic systems.
  • Understand computer network protocols (Routers, Switches, Ethernet, SMTP, IMAP, SNMP).
  • Operate equipment such as backhoes, trenchers, cable plows, and dozers.
  • Install, operate, and maintain radio systems (microwave, UFH, VFH, BETRS) if applicable.
  • Complete specialized reports, logs, and documentation.
  • Respond to ASR’s and coordinate engineering, installation, and provisioning of basic equipment.
  • Understand how departments contribute and refer customers and employees appropriately.
  • Perform “Lead Technician” duties such as mentoring, acting as a lead on projects.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

  • Use SL meters, Volt/OHM meters, DSL meters, light meters, and TDRs to solve problems.
Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

high school diploma or equivalent, valid driver’s license. Previous telecommunications and/or customer service experience preferred.
