Location: Skagway

Alaska X is a leading provider of shore excursions in southeast Alaska. We operate many different tours and activities, building our own equipment and structures. During the summer season, our company hosts approximately 150 seasonal staff members. This position supports our maintenance team by helping maintain over 100 pieces of machinery.

Job Location: Multiple locations – Skagway (primary), Haines, and Juneau.
Job Type: Full-time – year round.
Pay: $30.00–$35.00 per hour, DOE.

Experience
  • Diesel engine repair: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Mechanical knowledge: 1 year (Preferred)
Responsibilities
  • Build and assemble machines or mechanical components per requirements.
  • Inspect machines, engines, and transmissions and run diagnostic tests.
  • Conduct repairs to achieve maximum reliability.
  • Troubleshoot problems and resolve them in a timely manner.
  • Perform thorough maintenance on machinery, equipment, and systems.
  • Clean and apply lubricants to machinery components.
  • Replenish fluids and components of engines and machinery.
  • Consult on correct maintenance and preventive measures.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned (e.g., repair hydraulic systems, paint vehicles).
  • Keep logs of work and report on issues.
Skills
  • Proven experience as mechanic.
  • Strong knowledge of machinery, hydraulic, electrical, and system components.
  • Proficiency with hand tools and precision measurement tools.
  • Ability to follow procedures, read instructions, and use blueprints.
  • Commitment to health and safety guidelines.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Problem‑solving ability.
  • Good physical strength and stamina.
  • High school diploma preferred; vocational or apprenticeship training a plus.
  • Valid certification (e.g., ASE) preferred.
Job Requirements
  • Certified or able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • 21 years or older.
  • Valid driver’s license.
