Job Summary The ideal candidate will oversee maintenance and repairs of Sandvik drills and other drill and blast supporting equipment at remote sites, minimizing downtime and ensuring equipment is properly maintained. The ability to work independently with limited supervision is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and repair Sandvik, John Henry, and other drill and support equipment
- Maintain and service equipment
- Coordinate maintenance and repairs of equipment with the Shop Foreman
- Maintain repair and maintenance records in accordance with the Shop Foreman and Safety Department’s direction
- Inspect equipment and track repair needs; communicate recommendations to the Shop Foreman
- Assist with procuring, receiving, and inventory of shop supplies and parts under the direction of the Shop Foreman
- Work with and train apprentice mechanics and service oilers
- Support organization and maintenance of the shop facilities, including compliance with Colas 6S goals and associated infrastructure
- Promote safety and regulatory compliance while performing job responsibilities
- Maintain a CDL with hazmat endorsement
- Work Saturdays and Sundays; typical weekly hours may exceed 60
- Other duties as assigned
This position will report directly to the Shop Foreman but will be required to coordinate with the Project Superintendent and may require travel to remote sites as needed.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, work on feet for extended periods, walk on uneven terrain, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, see, and hear with frequent exposure to loud noise
- Regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions, dust, and airborne particles
- Occasionally lift and move 50 pounds or greater
- Required to pass pre-employment drug screening and a PAT (Physical Ability Test) prior to starting work
- Wears and maintains personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
- Must have own tools
Education
- College/University/Trade School or equivalent experience in a relevant field preferred
- Professional certifications as applicable to demonstrate experience
Miscellaneous
- Previous experience in road construction and/or a shop setting preferred for a smooth transition into the role
- CPR and 1st Aid Certification preferred
- Temporary housing available
