Job DescriptionThe Dock Representative (Dock Rep) team at Haines Skagway Fast Ferry is responsible for carrying out the company’s mission of providing clients with a safe, enjoyable, and educational wilderness experience. Dock Reps facilitate the operation of day programs by greeting guests, collecting tickets and waivers, and assisting with transfers. Reps are the first point of contact for guests and are expected to demonstrate a high level of professionalism and care in a fast-paced environment that supports daily Skagway and Haines operations.
Requirements- Prior office and/or tourism experience preferred
- Clean driving record and eligibility to be added to the company auto insurance
- Must have or obtain basic first aid and CPR certification
- Ability to think quickly and solve problems effectively
- Open to obtaining a Class B CDL with Passenger and Airbrake endorsements
- Must obtain and maintain a valid Class B CDL with Passenger and Airbrakes endorsements. Eligibility requires a clean driving record, being over 21 by March 1, 2024, and at least one year of driving experience
- Willingness to contribute to bus driving duties for tours and other operations
- Pass FMCSA-required pre-employment drug tests and screenings
- Enrolled in FMCSA random drug testing program
- Have and maintain a valid Medical Examiner’s Card
- Complete AMG Skagway driver training program
- Maintain an FMCSA-approved logbook for driving hours
- Complete vehicle checklists as needed
- Reports to Haines Skagway Fast Ferry Manager
- Assist in running daily operations, including responding to emails, phone calls, and voicemails
- Arrive at the dock prior to ferry arrival to inspect facilities and check in outbound guests
- Track daily manifests with accurate counts and, at end of day, scan, upload to SharePoint, and file away
- Update season and daily prelims using Zoho, Fare Harbor, and partner spreadsheets
- Contact partners for prelim updates
- Manage crowds to ensure all guests board the fast ferry
- Fill out ship settlement forms as required
- Provide administrative/marketing support and other duties as needed
- Invoice management and completion of settlement sheets
- Support projects and additional responsibilities as needed
June, July, and August are busy;
Dock Reps can expect 40+ hours per week. Overtime laws in Alaska may result in increased pay.
Housing is on-site in Haines with limited space for employees to bring personal campers/RVs. Facilities include a campground with shared bathrooms, a communal cooking area, and Bear safety considerations. Proximity to the warehouse/office facilitates commuting. An on-site guide room provides WiFi access.
Additional Notes- Rent is deducted twice monthly from paychecks; first and second pay periods apply
- Rent is prorated for the first month; final month rent may be deducted in full if vacating early
- Employees must vacate housing within 48 hours of final shift unless otherwise arranged
- Pets require management approval; approval may be rescinded if issues arise
- Failure to adhere to employee housing rules may result in expulsion from housing
