Our West Campus is located at 2400 Gillionville Road, Albany, GA 31707. Our East Campus is located at 504 College Drive, Albany, GA 31705. The Human Resources office for both campuses is located on the West Campus in Building K, Suite 111.
The Laboratory Instructor/Coordinator job combines teaching and lab support duties, requiring individuals to prepare and deliver lab sessions, supervise student assistants, maintain lab equipment, and ensure safety protocols are followed. They faculty in lab preparation and maintains lab inventory. Purchases lab supplies and organizes storage of supplies and equipment. Maintains oversight of lab safety and management of hazardous waste.
Responsibilities- Prepare and deliver laboratory sessions, including materials, solutions, and organisms for experiments, and conduct preparatory sessions for teaching assistants.
- Instruct students on experimental procedures, equipment operation, and safety protocols.
- Maintain knowledge of updated instructional materials and laboratory manuals.
- Prepare, administer, and grade examinations and quizzes to assess student understanding of lab concepts and procedures.
- Train and guide teaching assistants in their roles, ensuring they understand duties.
- Track attendance and performance of student assistants, providing feedback and guidance.
- Coordinate lab use and operations, overseeing efficient use of resources and equipment.
- Prepare and maintain instructional materials, media, solutions, and other materials for laboratory experiments.
- Ensure lab equipment functions properly and safely, performing routine maintenance.
- Order and manage lab supplies and equipment.
- Implement and enforce safety protocols, including handling hazardous materials and equipment.
- Provide guidance and supervision to students during lab activities, ensuring safety and conduct.
- Coordinate all laboratory functions, including classroom lectures, skills laboratory activities, and student practice activities.
- Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to overall lab functioning.
- Ensure compliance with Environmental Management System (EMS) manual and Environmental Health Occupational & Safety (EHS) policies, and participate in related committees.
- Perform other duties as requested by departmental chair.
- Master's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience in a laboratory setting, or an equivalent combination of education.
