Substitute Teacher

Job Summary

Substitute teachers are responsible for providing instruction and managing classroom environments in the absence of the teacher. Substitute teachers are required to perform all of the duties of the teacher. Substitute assignments can be for just a day, a week, or sometimes for longer periods depending on the absence period of the regular teacher.

• Must have an Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree or a minimum of forty-five (45) college credit hours, 2.2 GPA or greater, unless a valid teacher certificate or valid paraprofessional certificate;
• Must attend SWGA RESA Substitute Training mandatory by the DOE unless a Georgia certified teacher;
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.

• Ability to relate and motivate all students;
• Ability to successfully integrate technology into the classroom while engaging students;
• Ability to perform routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities.

• In the absence of the teacher, follows all rules and guidelines, lesson plans, etc. and maintain the overall order of the classroom;
• Must be punctual, organized and enthusiastically committed to the success of all assigned students for the class;
• Follows develop detailed instructional plans and outlines for instructing students and subject matter assigned which will achieve the educational results desired;
• Maintains the degree of discipline and order in the classroom necessary to effectively instruct the class;
• Supervises or assists in the supervision of school activities as assigned;
• Performs related duties as assigned as circumstances require;
• Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Supervisor(s).
