HDD Crew Leader at San Diego County Office of Education

• Lead scheduling of Hydraulic Drilling Operations, acquire necessary materials and equipment, and maintain locate tickets for each project.
• Operate locating equipment to identify and protect existing underground electrical utilities.
• Install conduit into transformers and switch‑gear apparatus.
• Operate a variety of construction equipment including dump truck, backhoe, bucket truck, trencher, line truck, forklift, boring rig, tension rig, tamp, tractor, chipper, stump grinder, phasing stick, voltage ohmmeter, breakers, regulators, hydraulic tools, jackhammer, air compressor, pipe horn, post hole digger, shovel, axe, saw, chain saw, mechanic tools, cable/chain/nylon‑belt hoists and related items.
• Perform routine maintenance on equipment: inspect, check fluids, replace fluids, grease, wash, and keep work areas clean.
• Carry out manual work for power distribution, including laying and installing pipe, boring under roads/driveways, pouring concrete, trimming tree limbs, digging holes, driving ground rods, shoveling materials, lifting heavy items, and flagging traffic.
• Lead and train crew on directional drill operations for installing conduit/cable, potable water lines, and gas lines.
• Instruct locators on navigating the boring drill head.
• Assist in installing, maintaining, and repairing underground and overhead structures such as poles, cables, lights, and related equipment.
• Work after hours, weekends, and holidays during emergencies or severe weather, notifying supervisors as required.
• Operate a two‑way radio and assist in grounding operations.
• Transport, load, and unload equipment and materials; maintain adequate supplies on trucks.
• Use safety equipment and precautionary methods to protect crew and the public.
• Respond to information requests from employees, officials, the public, or others.
• Install, maintain, and remove holiday decorations and lights.
• Assist with fiber‑optic telecommunications maintenance when needed.
• Attend classes or workshops on safe work practices with energized lines and gas lines.

• High school diploma or GED; supplemented by at least 5 years of experience or training operating directional‑drill heavy equipment or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Must pass written and hands‑on tests.
• Valid Georgia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements.
• Bucket Truck Rescue Certification, CPR, and Department of Transportation Flagging training required.
• Ability to communicate via two‑way radio.
