Responsibilities
  • Conduct detailed inspections of ongoing construction activities, with a focus on heavy earthwork operations such as excavation, grading, and soil compaction.
  • Verify all construction work meets approved plans, specifications, and engineering standards; monitor the implementation of construction drawings; identify and document deviations or non-conformance; and recommend corrective actions.
  • Enforce strict adherence to safety regulations and standards on the construction site; conduct regular safety audits; track project timelines and milestones; prepare progress reports; and provide technical guidance to construction crews.
  • Collaborate with the Resident Engineer, Chief Inspector, site superintendent, contractors, and other project stakeholders to coordinate activities and resolve issues.
Preferred Qualifications
  • The qualified candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of transportation construction experience, a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field (or equivalent work experience), and proven experience as a Civil Inspector/Engineer with a focus on heavy highway work.
  • Familiarity with local construction codes, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines; strong knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices related to earthworks construction and site development.
  • Attention to detail; proactive issue identification and resolution; ability to work outdoors and meet the physical demands of a construction site; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook)
  • Proven problem-solving and documentation abilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Typically requires successfully passing drug-screening prior to hire; thereafter subject to random and cause drug and alcohol testing
