Museum Exhibit Specialist ; Graphic Design

The New York State Education Department’s Office of Cultural Education is seeking a Museum Exhibit Specialist 1 (Graphic Design) (SG-15) for the New York State Museum. This hybrid role in Albany supports the work of the New York State Library, the New York State Archives, and the Office of Cultural Education Deputy’s Office by creating accessible, brand-consistent print and digital materials that also serve exhibit and visitor needs as workload allows.

In this position, you will partner with program, communications, and leadership staff to develop clear visual assets, improve way finding and navigation, and deliver production-ready files for a range of formats. The appointment will be permanent and non-competitive

• Provide professional graphic design services primarily supporting the New York State Library
  , New York State Archives
  , and the Office of Cultural Education Deputy’s Office
  , with additional support for the New York State Museum where workload allows.
• Collaborate with program areas to design and implement cohesive way finding systems that strengthen navigation, accessibility, and visitor experience.
• Design and produce public-facing print and digital materials, including publications, educational materials, reports, presentations, signage, promotional materials, digital graphics, branded communications, display materials
  , and related visual content.
• Develop and maintain layouts, templates, graphics, illustrations, and branded design assets to support a consistent visual identity across OCE materials.
• Ensure materials are accurate, accessible, visually consistent
  , and aligned with agency branding, editorial, accessibility, and communications standards.
• Prepare design files for production and distribution across printing, digital publication, web use, presentations, and other formats.
• Manage multiple assignments, timelines, revisions, and competing priorities to keep projects on schedule.
• Update and revise existing graphic materials to maintain accuracy, consistency, accessibility
  , and professional quality.
• Coordinate with vendors, printers, and internal staff to support production, delivery, and implementation.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support the office’s graphic design, communications, and public engagement goals.

• Reassignment requirement: one year of permanent non-competitive or ?55b/c service as a Museum Exhibit Specialist 1 (Graphic Design).
• Non-competitive minimum qualifications: five years of production experience in graphic design services for digital output and publications.

• Salary: USD 62,477 - 75,686 per year
• Minimum experience: 5 years

• Telecommute up to 30% each bi-weekly pay period (discretion of the supervisor and the appointing office).
