Teacher Assistant (26-27 SY) at KIPP Capital Region Public Schools
Position OverviewThe Teacher Assistant role is responsible for providing classroom support to the Lead Teacher and completing daily tasks within a classroom environment.

- Assist teachers with instruction, assessments, grading, and other classroom responsibilities.
- Support students by providing one‑on‑one and small group tutoring daily, and small group intervention and student support with the potential to teach small groups of students.
- Observe Lead Teachers to improve instructional techniques and classroom management.
- Provide administrative support, including copies, hallway duty, organizing classroom materials, etc.
- Assist in planning and presenting lessons and help students learn.
- Participate in grade‑level activities and school‑wide functions, events, and trips.
- Apply consistent rewards and consequences for student behavior.
- Serve as an advisor to a small group of students.
- Track student attendance and class schedules.
- Help students adjust, learn, socialize, and report behavioral issues to teachers.
- Ensure classrooms are safe and tidy before and after student departure.
- Supervise students during transitions, breakfast, lunch, and after school.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
- Participate in the annual three‑week staff orientation and training.
- Partner with the SPED Team to review material for individual students who require additional support.
- Assist Lead Teacher by problem‑solving and making timely, solution‑focused determinations.
- Establish, cultivate, and maintain a collaborative relationship with the Lead Teacher.
- Manage and reduce risk within the classroom with support from the Lead Teacher and seek assistance as needed.
- Comply with all federal, state, local laws and regulations, including those of the NYS Department of Education, the Department of Health, and NYS Office of Children and Family Services.
- Adhere to organization policies and procedures; promote and support mission, vision, and values, including participation in internal surveys and data collection for continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Valid NYS Teaching Assistant Certification or willingness to pursue state certification (preferred).
- Prior experience working in schools and urban communities preferred but not required.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule outside of regular business hours.
- Aptitude to create and work within an inclusive environment that honors and supports a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the school and other facilities as needed.
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Need to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, use fingers to type, handle or feel objects, tools, and controls; reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance; stoop/bend and reach, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk, hear.
- Dexterity for operating standard office machines such as computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, phones, and calculators.
- Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 20 pounds.

Competitive salary ranging from $39,200 to $44,821. This role is located at KIPP Capital Region schools in Albany, NY.
