Associate in Instructional Services (Earth Science 7-12) (NY HELPS), Box OEP-86/64013
New York State Education Department (NYSED) is seeking an Associate in Instructional Services to work in the Office of State Assessment. The role involves development and administration of Regents Examinations in Earth and Space Sciences and related tests.
Base pay range$ per year – $ per year
Duties Description- Plan and conduct activities related to development of the Regents Exams in Earth and Space Sciences, convening and facilitating review committees, participating in committee work and scoring sessions; review and revise test questions; work with stakeholder groups.
- Lead test development activities in science, including training, assigning, and reviewing teacher‑consultant work.
- Prepare and review examinations, rubrics and supplementary materials; monitor progress through phases of development, translations, and printing.
- Collaborate with internal offices to support implementation of the New York State P12 Science Learning Standards and develop supplementary materials for new assessments aligned to these standards.
- Prepare written materials for dissemination (news releases, bulletins, newsletters, web site content) and represent the Department at meetings related to NYS assessments.
NY HELPS (Non‑competitive appointment)
- Master’s degree AND New York State permanent or professional certification in Earth Science 7‑12.
- Four years of full‑time classroom teaching experience in Earth Science 7‑12 grades 7‑12.
Competitive Minimum Qualifications
- One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Associate in Instructional Services (Earth Science 7‑12).
- Master’s degree AND New York State permanent or professional teaching certification in Earth Science 7‑12.
- Four years of full‑time classroom teaching experience in Earth Science 7‑12 grades 7‑12.
Promotion and Transfer
- Current State employees must have one year of permanent service as an Assistant in Instructional Services (Earth Science 7‑12).
- Eligible for 55b/c designation; must possess a current 55b/c eligibility letter and meet the qualifications above.
- Eligible for section 70.1 transfer; must meet eligibility requirements and have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a Professional Educator title.
The appointment is contingent permanent, either competitive or non‑competitive. Verification of master’s degree, transcripts, and valid New York State teaching certification in Earth Science 7‑12 will be required. Employment is contingent on maintaining valid certification and a TEACH account every five years. Telecommute is available up to 30% of the time; 10% in‑state/statewide travel required. Salary is based on the base range and performance advances.
