Project Engineer - Electrical

Position Overview

Project Engineer – Electrical at Signal Energy. The role designs and leads high‑voltage substation and transmission projects, providing engineering support across all phases.

The Project Engineer – Electrical executes detailed design of LV, HV, and EHV electrical power systems for transmission and distribution substations. The engineer leads a multidisciplinary team of engineers and drafters to deliver high‑quality technical solutions.

• Lead substation engineering design projects, including detailed electrical and physical design for high‑voltage substations.
• Coordinate project flow and issues among all engineering disciplines and project management.
• Provide engineering support to project management, procurement, and construction throughout the project lifecycle.
• Develop single‑line switching and protection diagrams, equipment specifications, and three‑line and DC schematic diagrams.
• Create cable and conduit schedules with sizing and calculate power system requirements (AC/DC, grounding, lightning protection).
• Design underground MV and HV cabling systems, including ampacity, installation details, and coordination with vendors and subcontractors.
• Review and approve engineering drawings and calculations, ensuring compliance with codes and client specifications.
• Maintain accurate engineering documents and records.

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of experience designing transmission‑level substations (13.8‑kV to 500‑kV).
• Proficiency in NEC, ANSI, NEMA, IEEE, and other applicable codes and standards.
• Experience with substation protection and control systems, SCADA, and low‑voltage auxiliary systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Professional Engineering license (one or more US states) is preferred but not required.

• Microsoft Outlook – Intermediate

10% travel typical for Project Engineers.

Ability to lift and move equipment up to 15 lbs.
