Highway Design Project Manager Requirements & Qualifications
- B.S. degree in Civil Engineering
- 7+ years of progressive highway design and transportation project management experience
- Proven ability to manage projects from preliminary design through PS&E and construction support
- Experience with NYSDOT highway design projects and federally funded transportation programs
- Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred or ability to obtain
- Proficiency in MS Office and Micro Station preferred
Highway Design Project Manager Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Lead planning, design, and delivery of highway transportation projects, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, budget, and staffing
- Manage compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, permitting, and quality standards
- Serve as primary client and stakeholder contact, building strong, long-term relationships
- Oversee project billing, QA/QC of deliverables, and project closeout activities
- Support proposal development, scope definition, and fee estimation for new and existing projects
- Mentor and develop junior engineering staff to support team growth and success
