Base pay range$50,039.00/yr - $66,665.00/yr
DescriptionPrimary Purpose
Under general supervision, the Accountant performs professional accounting tasks, including the preparation, review, processing, analysis and/or supervision of financial account records relating to accounts receivable, investments, and other financial activities.
Essential Functions- Verify, analyze, record and reconcile data from various sources (bank statements, client agreements, bond documents, etc.) to the financial management system, investment management system, debt management system and various other PC applications/databases.
- Perform or assist with complex financial calculations and moderately difficult financial analysis.
- Create and/or maintain various schedules, reports, spreadsheets, databases and/or other documents.
- Perform and/or oversee the recording and reconciliation of financial data from various sources to internal systems/applications including data transfer between them.
- Draft journal, budget, receipt and receivable entries.
- Prepare invoices for various fees, debt service, rents and projects.
- Monitor and report on financial data such as account balances, disbursements, receipts/receivables, debt/debt service, investments and credit.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of financial management systems, including set‑up, maintenance of records, data integrity review, interfaces, periodic processes.
- Import and/or export data among internal and external systems.
- Coordinate with appropriate DASNY units in the set‑up, monitoring and reporting of construction, health care and operating projects.
- Prepare or review financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Work directly with employees, clients and trustees to research and resolve conflicts/problems/issues.
- Assist with tasks related to the annual audit, such as the preparation and review of year‑end financial statements, performing special calculations and drafting year‑end journal entries.
- Assist in ensuring the accuracy of information received, entered into and extracted from various system applications.
- Create reports using the financial management system, Clearwater, or other systems.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with Federal and State laws, financial standards/practices, and DASNY policies and procedures.
- May train and evaluate staff.
- Assist with the documentation and implementation of internal controls.
- Review and implement internal controls and related processes.
- Undertake special assignments as assigned.
- Maintain regular attendance in accordance with DASNY attendance and leave policies.
- Adhere to the NYS Information Security Policy Standards established by the Office of Information Technology.
- Possibly supervise employees.
- Occasional travel may be required using public transportation, DASNY vehicle, rental vehicle or personal vehicle, including overnight stays at public accommodations.
- Require complex and time‑pressured decision‑making; overtime or extended work hours may be required.
- Work in a standard office environment using PC, telephone, fax machine, printer, copier, scanner, electronic stapler, three‑hole punch, date stamp, shredder.
Bachelor’s degree; or an Associate's degree plus three years relevant work experience; or a High School diploma or equivalent plus four years of relevant DASNY accounting experience with a basic knowledge of debits/credits.
Preferred QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field plus one year of professional accounting experience with the application of basic accounting principles and financial statement preparation.
