Duties Description The incumbent of this position will report to the State Emergency Operations Center Readiness Team within the Office of Emergency Management.
Reporting to the Disaster Preparedness Program Representative 2, the Disaster Preparedness Program Representative 1 will be assigned to the stand alone State Emergency Operations Center Readiness Program section.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
* Aid in updating and maintaining the State Emergency Operations Center supporting documents.
* Research, analyze, and report on program activities.
* Write, draft, review, and implement emergency operational procedures, plans, and communications.
* Assist with special section initiatives and projects as required.
* Support operations during times of emergency and disaster from the State Emergency Operations Center (EOC), state field offices, and/or local deployments.
* Aid in the development and delivery of EOC related training materials.
* Assure the readiness of workstations, audio/video equipment, and other technology located within the Operations Center.
* Assist in the administration of the New York Responds (NYR) incident management system, including the testing of updates.
* Participate in EOC training programs and exercises.
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
* To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:
Four years of emergency management experience coordinating and implementing emergency management and disaster preparedness programs; preparation or modification of disaster plans; preparing, modifying, and presenting of disaster educational training and/or exercises; gathering and analyzing information to produce briefings or reports or to make timely and effective incident response decisions; representing an agency or organization in an Emergency Operations Center or leadership position on the Incident Command System;
and managing or supervising logistics operations during a major emergency or disaster by overseeing the distribution or staging of equipment and supplies.
Substitutions: an associate degree in a related field can substitute for two years of specialized experience; a bachelor's in a related field degree can substitute for four years of experience.
