Job Summary

  • Position Summary

    Works under the direct supervision of a Respiratory Therapist holding a Licensure – Mandatory Status to perform Respiratory Care services as prescribed by the ordering physician. Provides direct and indirect patient care services by assisting, supporting and following established protocols, processes and procedures within the department as defined and/or mandated by State and Federal law.

  • Minimum Qualifications

    • Work Experience

      None required.

    • Education

      Current enrollment in an accredited Respiratory Care Program required.

    • Certifications/Licensure

      • Certified in the state of Kentucky by the Kentucky Board of Respiratory Care – Limited Mandatory Certification (Student).

      • Limited Mandatory Certification (Student) is no longer valid upon graduation and employees may no longer work as a Student Respiratory Technician.

    • The duties listed below are a summary of the major essential functions of this position. The position may require other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned, and specific functions may change from time to time.
    • Under direct supervision responsible for setting up and operating various types of respiratory equipment.
    • Participates in processing, cleaning, changing, and sterilization of equipment as defined by departmental policies.
    • Under direct supervision exhibits the ability to troubleshoot and perform routine procedures using respiratory equipment.
    • Under direct supervision utilizes different respiratory modalities to dispense inhalation medications in the treatment of disease and/or illness.
    • Records all patient care procedures as defined by organizational and hospital policies.
    • Displays knowledge and professionalism in emergency situations.
    • Maintains the condition of assigned areas in a clean and orderly fashion.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and use of patient assessment skills.
    • Exhibits a willingness to learn all aspects of Respiratory Care.
    • Attends in-services on new equipment to learn any new procedures
