A Brief Overview
We are looking for a highly capable Senior Workers' Compensation Claims Adjuster to join our Claims team and work from either our Rockwood, PA or Omaha, NE offices. Alternatively, we can also fill this role in our offices in Albany, NY, Chicago, IL, Los Angeles, CA, New York, NY, Richmond, VA or Springfield, MO. We work together in the office five days a week to strengthen our culture, build team connections, and drive profitability.
The position reports to a manager based in North Carolina. This role will adjudicate workers' compensation claims in the jurisdictions of LA, MA, and OK and contribute to providing superb results for our clients.
- Adjudicate highly complex indemnity workers’ compensation claims on assignments with potentially significant impact on departmental results, under limited technical direction and within broad limits and authority.
- Solve difficult problems that require understanding a broader set of issues.
- Report to senior management and underwriters on claims trends and developments.
- Investigate claims promptly and thoroughly, including interviewing all involved parties.
- Analyze claims forms, policies and endorsements, client instructions, and other records to determine whether the loss falls within policy coverage.
- Manage claims in litigation and maintain timely and complete diary tasks to move cases toward the best financial outcome and timely resolution.
- Set claim reserves appropriately and identify, assign, and coordinate expertise resources to assist in case resolution.
- Prepare reports for file documentation and apply creative solutions to achieve the best financial outcome.
- Negotiate settlements and handle mail and workload prioritization.
- Complete telephone calls and written correspondence to/from various parties (insured, claimant, etc.).
- Demonstrate a passion for strong claim management and a customer-focused approach.
- Strong business acumen and understanding of how an insurance company operates and profits, including how this role impacts Argo Group and customers.
- Advanced knowledge of workers’ compensation claims and exceptional customer service focus.
- Minimum five years of adjudicating workers’ compensation claims in the jurisdictions of LA, MA, and/or OK.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university required
. Two or more insurance designations or four additional years of related experience adjudicating workers’ compensation claims beyond the minimum may substitute for a degree. - Must be licensed in LA or have the ability to quickly obtain a license to adjudicate first-party claims.
- Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to build lasting relationships.
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment on matters of significance. Issues are generally not highly complex but require an understanding of a broader set of issues.
- Strong claim negotiation skills and the ability to take a proactive, pragmatic approach to negotiation.
- Desire to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent evaluation and strategic skills and a strong customer focus.
- Effective time management and the ability to prioritize workload while handling multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Ability to articulate the financial value of work at multiple responsibility levels inside clients’ business, including the CEO when applicable.
- Demonstrates integrity and the courage to do the right thing. Maintains intellectual curiosity to explore options and avoid conventional thinking.
- Understanding of mechanisms for resolving claim settlement disputes (e.g., arbitration and mediation) and when these are used.
