Title: Construction Equipment Operator

Location: Grounds Department

Grade: CSEASG-8

Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• One year of experience in the operation of equipment noted as appropriate for this class and the possession of a valid New York State driver's license Class B or higher required. This position may be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment. Candidates may be expected to be qualified to use negative pressure respirators.
• Appointment will be contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment testing for controlled substance use as mandated by the Federal Highway Administration Omnibus Transportation Act of 1991 (OTETA). Employment cannot commence until notification for successful completion of this pre-employment testing is received. Please note that in addition to the initial testing required by OTETA, the Act further requires that the University conduct pre-assignment (promotion), reasonable suspicion, post-accident, random, follow-up and return to duty drug and alcohol testing throughout the period of employment.

• Ability to operate backhoes, front-end loaders, skid steers, wing plows, street sweeper / storm sewer machine and any other vehicles and equipment used in the regular maintenance and operations of the campus;
• Ability to perform the physical tasks of the position and to understand and follow simple oral or written instructions;
• Ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor;
• Ability to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime and be subject to shift changes to accommodate snow removal needs;
• Possess a valid NYS Commercial Driver's License Class B or higher required.
