The New York State Education Department seeks a Director of the Regent Joseph

E. Bowman, Jr. Research Library, one of North America's largest research libraries with over 20 million items. Reporting to the State Librarian, the Director will provide strategic and operational leadership for the Research Library's collections, services, programs, staff, and facilities while serving as a key advisor on broader institutional priorities. The role involves leading a large multidisciplinary team, advancing digitization and access initiatives, managing the budget and operations, and building strategic partnerships across government, educational, and cultural organizations.

• Master's degree in Library and Information Studies from an ALA-accredited institution and seven years of post-degree professional library experience
• Three or more years of significant leadership experience with administrative or management responsibility in a research library, academic library, archive, or similar knowledge organization
• Demonstrated success as a senior leader in a complex library with a record of strategic direction and organisational improvement
• Proven ability to serve as a trusted strategic partner to senior leadership and translate ambitious ideas into organizational change
• Strong track record leading and developing senior managers and multidisciplinary teams with focus on collaboration, innovation, and service excellence
• Significant knowledge of major research libraries, digitisation, digital preservation, technology and evolving approaches to access and engagement
