Learning Specialist

Department/Unit: Medical Education
Work Shift: Day (United States of America)
Salary Range: $60,367.47 - $90,551.20

Based in the Patient Safety and Clinical Competency Center, the Learning Specialist designs and implements academic support services and learning resources for medical and graduate students and residents at all training stages. The role coordinates academic support and remediation planning, aligns support programs with accreditation and curriculum requirements, tracks student outcomes, and identifies academic interventions to promote success. When necessary, the specialist refers students for neuropsychiatric testing, psychiatric evaluation, or psychological counseling.

Essential

Functions
  • Meet with students during orientation to proactively assess skills, potential weaknesses, and optimize performance in the curriculum.
  • Develop and implement required workshops for students in Time Management, Effective Study Strategies, Examination Preparation, and Performance.
  • Coordinate academic support services and programs for all USMLE Step exams and other required exams.
  • Collaborate with faculty to design an early identification process for “at‑risk” students.
  • Provide faculty resources and support for student remediation needs.
  • Represent academic support services at meetings, seminars, or conferences such as the Northeast Group on Educational Affairs and other professional societies addressing student success.
  • Continuously educate and stay current with trends, student needs, and innovative support services.
  • Evaluate and recommend the purchase of supplemental learning resources for medical students, graduate students, and residents.
  • Oversee the learning resources budget, annual planning for needs and program costs, and track expenses throughout the year.
