DutiesDuring their careers, special agents carry out assignments in investigations and protection, often at multiple duty stations across the U.S. and abroad.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing protection for various protectees.
- Conducting criminal investigations related to financial obligations of the United States.
- Planning and implementing security designs for National Special Security Events.

Requirements- U.S. citizenship
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to carry and use a firearm; firearm proficiency is mandatory
- At least 21 years old at application time and under 37 at conditional offer, with exceptions for prior federal law enforcement service and veteran's preference
- Obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance
- Uncorrected visual acuity no worse than 20/100 binocular; corrected to 20/20 in each eye
- Hearing loss must not exceed 25 decibels in key ranges
- Pass pre-employment and random drug tests
- Complete 13 weeks of training at FLETC in Glynco, GA, and 18 weeks at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, MD
- Willingness to accept assignments nationwide and abroad
- Register with the Selective Service System or be exempt (if male and born after Dec 31, 1959)
