Candidates must have been legal residents of New York State for at least FOUR months prior to appointment. Preference may be given to successful candidates who have been legal residents of the municipality to which the appointment is to be made for at least FOUR months prior to appointment.

* Minimum Qualifications:

** High School Diploma or possession of a High School Equivalency and two years of experience in a related security position or an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Education or closely related field from an accredited college or university. Possession of a valid New York State Driver License. Completion of the 8-hour and 16-hour security guard courses mandated by New York State to be licensed before assignment.

Essential Responsibilities:

** Work is performed under general direction from the Director of Public Safety with considerable leeway permitted for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out assignments in accordance with defined procedures.
** The Campus Security Officer will report to the Director of Public Safety and perform the following duties:*
* • Control and direct traffic on campus roadways and parking lots.
• Patrol the campus on foot or in patrol vehicle to protect people and property, maintain order and ensure compliance with college rules and regulations.
• Investigate complaints received personally or as assigned by supervisor.
• Investigate motor vehicle accidents on campus.
• Enforce traffic and parking regulations.
• Supervise Security Guards on routine duties and at special events.
• Summon local police, fire departments…
