To assist each student in achieving maximum growth through art‑based activities while fostering a respectful, inclusive environment.
Responsibilities
The Arts Instructor will:
- Deliver art instruction to up to eight participants per class in the Albany arts studio and at community‑based art exhibits and galleries.
- Serve as a role model by using correct social interactions in both classroom and community settings.
- Organize, prioritize responsibilities, and apply strong problem‑solving skills.
- Create and maintain a group atmosphere conducive to habilitation and art instruction while accommodating each student’s well‑being and safety needs.
- Keep daily records and maintain frequent contact with families, residential, and day‑program staff.
- Assist program participants with vehicle transfer (e.g., wheelchairs, walkers), requiring no driving or physical restrictions that would hinder transportation duties.
Requirements
- 4‑year college degree (preferred) or strong artistic background with a proven record of art instruction and production.
- Experience working with persons with developmental disabilities or related experience.
- Coursework or experience in a variety of art mediums.
- Valid NYS driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Excellent communication, organizational, problem‑solving, and leadership skills with flexibility and ability to work independently.
