COBOL Developer

We are seeking an experienced COBOL Developer to support the maintenance, enhancement, and modernization of large-scale enterprise systems for a long-term state-level project in Albany, NY.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in mainframe COBOL programming, database integration, system design, and writing detailed technical specification documents. This role requires a strong understanding of multi-tier transactional systems, IBM DB2, JCL, and IDMS.

• Develop, maintain, and enhance enterprise applications using COBOL within a mainframe.
• Write and execute JCL (Job Control Language) for batch processing and operational workflows.
• Perform database development and integration using IBM DB2 and IDMS.
• Write comprehensive technical design specification documents for complex, component-based systems.
• Conduct thorough system analysis and design for multi-tier transactional applications.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve application and system-level issues.
• Collaborate with project managers, analysts, and technical teams to deliver high-quality.
• Ensure solutions conform to established standards, best practices, and architectural guidelines.

• Mainframe Programming
  • 7+ years (84 months) of professional COBOL programming experience.
  • 7+ years (84 months) of JCL experience working in a mainframe environment.
• Database Experience
  • 7+ years (84 months) of experience working with IBM DB2 databases.
  • 5+ years (60 months) of IDMS Database experience.
• Technical Documentation & System Design
  • 5+ years (60 months) writing technical design specification documents for complex component-based systems.
  • 5+ years (60 months) performing system analysis and design for multi-tiered, transactional systems.

Compensation: $58.00 per hour
