Head Football Strength and Conditioning Coach

The University at Albany Department of Athletics is seeking a Head Football Strength and Conditioning Coach.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Designing, directing and implementing periodized, evidence-based, sport specific programs for a Division I FCS football program.
  • Developing and educating student‑athletes on the proper techniques for all weight training activities.
  • Assessing and evaluating each student‑athlete’s movement and program individual needs to improve physical development; help reduce injuries; and enhance athletic performance.
  • Maintaining current knowledge of the latest trends and technology to track student‑athlete progress.
  • Serving as a resource for student‑athletes by providing educational resources about nutrition, supplements and diet.
  • Effectively communicating, monitoring and supervising all weight training and conditioning activities to ensure safety and welfare for student‑athletes.
  • Serving as the strength and conditioning coach for the women’s golf program (Division I MAAC Associate Member).
  • Adhering to all policies, procedures, and regulations of the university, conference affiliates and the NCAA.
  • Performing administrative duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Performance.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Candidates must possess the following qualities:

  • Positive coaching style and willingness to work and to invest the needed time to develop the student‑athlete, which will include working non‑traditional hours (i.e., evenings, weekends, holidays.)
  • Strong passion and positive energy to help motivate student‑athletes.
  • Outstanding communication skills with administrators, sport coaches, student‑athletes, sports medicine staff, as well as other strength coaches.
  • Excellent documentation and organizational skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization in strength and conditioning, preferably in kinesiology, physiology or exercise related field.
  • Current certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) or the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA) and certification in CPR/AED Training.
  • Work experience as a football strength coach in college or professional athletics for one year required.
Preferred Requirements
  • Master’s Degree with experience designing and implementing strength programs for two or more years at the collegiate level.
  • Experience working with a collegiate or professional football team.
