State Government Audit Manager

The Audit Manager acts as a communicator between the Partner, the client, and the professional team. This position involves overseeing multiple auditing and accounting projects and client engagements simultaneously, in addition to organizing, staffing, and coordinating workflow for engagements. The Manager is responsible for training staff, developing relationships to generate new business, and playing a key role in client retention.

Primary Duties Manage all stages of audit and review engagements concurrently on multiple projects

Regularly liaise with clients to keep informed on their operations and systems, fostering strong client relationships

Update the Director or Partner on client account developments; identify issues and provide solutions

Showcase expertise in technical skills, work quality, and adherence to professional and Firm standards

Ensure efficient scheduling of engagements

Familiarize oneself with the firm's audit methodology

Create, monitor, and stick to budgets for Assurance and Advisory engagements; address budget overruns proactively

Foresee engagement problems and potential queries

Review financial statements and other client deliverables

Direct, train, supervise, and review the work of senior and staff accountants

Conduct staff performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback

Participate in the Firm’s Business Development initiatives

Requirements

Key

Qualifications:

Hold a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field

Minimum of five years of public accounting experience, with a focus on public sector auditing (e.g., cities, counties, special districts, charter schools)
Possess a valid and current CPA license

Demonstrated ability to lead teams and collaborate effectively

Prioritize tasks efficiently, meeting deadlines consistently

In-depth understanding of U.S. GAAP and GASB standards

Extensive experience conducting audits following GAGAS, GAAS, and the Uniform Guidance Open to training, supervision, and constructive feedback

Capable of guiding, reviewing, and training staff at all levels

Experience with audits of not-for-profit organizations

Working Environment Hybrid work arrangement (remote, office, or client site) as necessary for client service and staff training

Same-day travel to client sites, meetings, and seminars, as required

Occasional out-of-town travel with overnight stays for client work, meetings, or seminars
