- Create, oversee, and participate in a variety of learning environments and activities that enable students to achieve their learning objectives.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to promote the well-being of the department and college, and support the college’s strategic goals.
- Instruct nondestructive testing courses and related metallurgy/materials topics at Levels I and II or as assigned, in accordance with SNT-TC-1A (1992 edition or later).
- Establish relationships with local industry and schools; collaborate with industry and high school partners to research labor market needs and occupational demand.
- Plan, prepare, and participate in student recruitment; advise students on progression and related needs.
- Evaluate students in classroom and laboratory settings and compile evaluation reports.
- Function as a member of the Advanced Manufacturing and Transportation Technology division; participate on department and college committees as assigned.
- Consult with local industry to recommend materials and equipment purchases to support the program(s).
- Support program development and ensure alignment with college strategic goals (Productivity, Equity, Quality).
- Perform other related duties as directed by the Dean, Business, Applied Technology and Industry.
Minimum Qualifications
- BS or BT in Metallurgy or Materials Science or a related field, plus at least two years of work experience at a technical or professional level in metallurgy, materials, metals manufacturing, or nondestructive testing (penetrant, ultrasonics, radiography).
- An Associate’s degree in a related field may substitute for two years of the required education if accompanied by additional related, professional-level work experience beyond the two-year requirement.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of business and industry needs as it relates to metallurgy, materials, and nondestructive testing.
- Broad knowledge of work processes and tasks related to metallurgy and materials testing (data acquisition, photo stress analysis, statistical process control or quality control).
- Organizational skills, ability to prioritize and complete complex tasks; strong interpersonal communication for networking and partnerships.
- Problem-solving skills with the ability to guide others to achieve goals; knowledge of college and state regulations and processes for program development and approval.
- Teaching or training experience in metallurgy, materials, nondestructive testing, or related field at the community college level.
- Certification or ability to obtain Level II or higher in Radiography, Penetrant, Ultrasonics, Eddy Current and Magnetic Particle Testing per SNT-TC-1A; broad knowledge of related processes.
- Ability to work with staff and students; primarily indoor in an NDT lab; potential exposure to safety/health hazards and X-ray radiation.
- Instruct NDT series (UT, RT, PT, MT) at Levels I and II per SNT-TC-1A; may teach related metallurgy/materials topics.
- Establish relationships with local industry and schools; collaborate to research labor market needs.
- Align program measures with the college’s strategic goals; consult with local industry on equipment purchases.
- Recruit students; advise on progression; evaluate students and compile reports.
- Participate in department and college committees; other duties as assigned.
