Job Summary:
Assists teaching staff with various duties in the preschool classrooms in accordance with childcare licensing regulations, ECE Program coursework and philosophy, PCDC’s policies and procedures, and other applicable standards. Helps to maintain a healthy and safe classroom environment in a supportive role.
Required Qualifications:Education and Experience:
- Must maintain enrollment in at least 6 credits at LBCC, maintain satisfactory academic progress throughout each term, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better, and have financial aid in place to be eligible to work in a Work Study student employee capacity at Linn-Benton Community College
- Ability and desire to work with children ages 2-6 years old; some experience is preferable
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to assist staff with classroom and playground activities for preschool children.
- Ability to follow health and safety regulations, policies and procedures.
- Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for preschool children, including using
- Ability to develop and maintain positive, respectful working relationships with children, parents,
- staff and others.
- Ability to follow established directions and instructions and abide by PCDC’s policies.

Job Requirements:
- Enrollment in Oregon’s Central Background Registry and active ORO account.
- Current First Aid/ CPR certification for adult, child, and infant (or acquired within 90 days from date of hire).Current Oregon Food Handler Card (or acquired within 30 days from date of hire).
- Completion of Safety Set as required by Oregon Certified Child Care Rules.
- May perform other duties as assigned. May perform the duties of the Toddler Assistant.
Working Conditions:
- This position operates mostly in the classroom environment.
- In addition, there may be work outdoors intermittently.
- Job hours are determined by the work study award, and will be renewed as funds are granted to the individual.
- Pushing, pulling, and carrying supplies, cleaning equipment, and files, and other equipment in the range of 10-40 lbs.
- Frequent lifting, bending, twisting, sitting on the floor, squatting, and kneeling while assisting children or conducting janitorial responsibilities.
- Requires minimal technical ability with smart phone applications or computer skills.
- Helping to maintain a safe and healthy environment for children.
- Assisting with classroom and playground supervision of children while incorporating positive child guidance techniques. Assess child behaviors and the environment; making frequent decisions to ensure child health and safety.
- Assisting with supporting children in learning self-help skills associated with caring for their needs and daily activities.
Implementing and supporting the daily classroom activities such as mealtimes, free choice, story time and other related activities, following the lesson plan as directed by the Preschool Teacher. - Assisting with general classroom maintenance and cleaning which includes sweeping floors, disinfecting toys and furniture, replenishing supplies, laundry duties and other related tasks.
- Communicating positively with staff, parents, children and others.
- Assisting the teaching staff with implementing a dual language classroom.
- Helping the teaching staff with record keeping as assigned.
- Ensuring proper sanitation and food safety regulations are followed.
- The Preschool Assistant must be within sight and sound of a Preschool Teacher except when: accompanying children to the restroom, providing medical attention, monitoring an ill child waiting to go home, or supporting during rest time.
