Job Summary:

This posting is a pooled position. The Parenting Education instructor of a parent-child class is responsible for working with parents to deliver a quality educational experience for the children and a multi-level educational program for the enrolled parents. The instructor teaches in a classroom designed and equipped for parent-child learning. The instructor becomes a part of the Parenting Education team that works together to provide parents information and skills that help strengthen families, and participates in in-services to support and strengthen the quality of educational services provided.

The

instructor carries out the essential responsibilities by:

Participating in pre-service and in-service training offered by the Parenting Education Department staff. The instructor is expected to learn the philosophy and goals of the program and to understand how to implement them in the instructional activities for which the instructor is responsible.

Using the resources of the Parenting Education Department, the course outcomes outline and best practices to plan and offer an educational program for parents and children.

Developing an age-appropriate education program for the young children.

Following the policies and procedures outlined in the instructor orientation.

Responsibilities include facilities coordination, recruitment of students, participating in the Family Fun Day and other department activities.

Work is performed in an office or classroom setting with minimal exposure to safety or health hazards.

Education and Experience

Applications are reviewed for minimum qualifications. In order to be considered, your application must clearly show you meet the minimum qualifications for this position. Bachelor’s degree, with the preferred discipline Child Development, Human Development, Early Childhood Development or closely related area, plus 3 years’ experience teaching groups of young children, OR seven years of teaching experience in early childhood, education or a related area.

Salary and Compensation Information:

Courses are paid on a per-credit basis. New Part-time Faculty begin at Step 1 of the pay scale, with steps being “rolled” once per term, if eligible.

Table 1 illustrates the cost per credit for each step on the pay scale. Instructors new to the College typically start at the rate listed in column 1.
Table 3 illustrates the compensation per hour for meetings, training, advising, curriculum development, or other related work.
