Position: Medical Assistant (MA) Specialist - Urgent Care
JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

Assists practitioners in assigned Urgent Care and/or specialty clinics with procedures, telephone prescription orders/refills, maintaining patient records, and relaying test results.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The Urgent Care teams at Samaritan Health Services treat conditions requiring immediate attention that are not life-threatening or severe enough to require hospital emergency care.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Registered or Certified Medical Assistant required.
  • Six (6) months Medical Assistant experience required.
  • Healthcare Provider BLS certification required.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant/Certified Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • Experience in applicable specialty area preferred.
  • Lab/EKG experience preferred.
  • KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
    • Patient Care: Skills and knowledge to assist and care for patients, recognize symptoms, drug properties and interactions, treatments, and preventive health measures within scope of practice.
    • Adaptability/Flexibility: Respond quickly and appropriately to situations with high risk or diverse patient populations; adjust actions to provide optimal care.
    • Communication: Effective written and oral skills to explain issues, exchange information, and discuss matters tactfully; capable of group presentations and understanding complex information.
    • Team Building: Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team, develop cooperative relationships, and maintain them over time.
    • Medical Terminology: Knowledge of medical records, procedures, and terminology; ability to interpret and apply policies, laws, and regulations.
    • Social Perceptiveness: Ability to work with diverse populations, understand age-related care differences, and maintain sensitivity and a non-judgmental attitude.
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    • Rarely (1-10%): Walk inclines, lift 0-60 lbs, push/pull 0-20 lbs, climb stairs, reach, sit, stand, walk level surfaces, finger dexterity, grasp, carry, manual dexterity.
    • Occasionally (11-33%): Lift 20-40 lbs, squat, kneel, bend, rotate trunk, reach upward.
    • Frequently (34-66%): Lift 0-20 lbs, rotate trunk standing, perform static squats, bend forward at waist.
    • Continually (67-100%): Manual tasks requiring dexterity, grasping, carrying, and other physical activities necessary for patient care.
