About The Job

The Field Representative is responsible for arranging and managing the production of proprietary varieties of seed; coordinating relationships between DLF USA Inc. staff, seed growers, and industry personnel; placing contracted acres with established growers and prospective new growers; representing DLF USA Inc. in a positive manor to increase public awareness and reputation.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Cultivate relationships and form mutual trust with new and current seed growers.
  • Negotiate seed production contracts to the mutual benefit of DLF USA Inc. and seed growers.
  • Deliver seed stock and see that seed production contracts are signed in a timely manner.
  • Provide proactive field support to the grower including field scouting, weed, insect and disease problems. Communicate observations to the grower especially as they relate to expected quality. Council on harvest dates as needed. Encourage growers to review appropriate concerns with their licensed chemical/fertilizer representative when necessary.
  • Promptly and accurately update appropriate reporting software with current quality expectations and pre-harvest yield estimates.
  • Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with personnel at seed conditioning warehouses. Assist in coordinating with warehouses for timely cleaning and preparation of seed for market.
  • Work with Oregon State Seed Certification personnel to establish and maintain certification eligibility as necessary.
  • Gather and report harvest information and make necessary adjustments to yield expectations.
  • Assist in planning future production requirements as related to contract extensions and future plantings.
  • Promptly communicate with seed growers regarding off-grade seed lots to request a re-clean or to negotiate an appropriate as-is price.
  • Coordinate the production of stock seed as assigned. Work with DLF USA Inc. plant breeders and research personnel as necessary to ensure genetic purity of DLF USA Inc. varieties.
  • Develop an understanding of company varieties and best practices for high quality and maximum yield.
  • Gather samples of seed lots as assigned and work with area seed testing laboratories as necessary.
  • Provide reports as required.
  • Assist DLF USA Inc. personnel in finding available seed for third party purchase.
  • Operate and maintain company facilities, vehicles and equipment in a safe and responsible manner and in accordance with the company handbook.
  • Consistently read and provide timely response to all correspondence, including emails.
  • Promptly report changes in crop conditions and expectations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned and work in other departments as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy or Agriculture preferred, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in seed production or a related industry; or 5-6 years of experience in seed production or a related industry, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to problem solve quickly and effectively.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of agronomic principles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent verbal, written, listening and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of team and independently.
