Adjunct faculty positions are appointed on a course-by-course, semester basis as needed. Responsibilities include teaching developmental and/or college-level courses, which may include distance-learning courses during the day and evening, on weekdays and weekends. Primarily face-to-face with the possibility of remote instruction. The successful candidate will teach a maximum of 12 credits per semester (fall/spring), which could include day, evening and weekend, off-campus, or distance education courses.
Special assignments may include other duties as assigned and, pending an emergency declaration by the Governor, assisting the agency or state government.
The candidate must be a nationally certified pharmacy technician with at least five years of experience performing technician tasks and hold a current, unrestricted registration in Virginia or a pharmacist with a current and unrestricted license. The successful candidate must have previous experience in a pharmacy setting, possess expert-level skills and abilities necessary to train future pharmacy technicians, and must have knowledge of local and regional healthcare facilities and systems.
The candidate must be very detail-oriented and able to meet deadlines. All adjunct faculty positions require excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, the ability to write syllabi and exams, develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments, and work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.
- High School diploma;
Associate degree in a health-related field preferred - PTCB Certification required
- Five or more years pharmacy technician experience (sterile compounding a plus)
- Ability to deliver instruction in the classroom, online, and in lab environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills in both an individual and group setting
- Work effectively as a team member to ensure departmental goals are met
- Ability to work in a virtual environment using multiple software programs simultaneously including MS Office programs, Canvas, Gmail, Zoom, etc.
