- The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long term care. Provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned resident under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN).
- Delivers age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per care plan.
- Maintains infection prevention and control policies and uses Personal Protective Equipment as required.
- Assists with basic health care needs, including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, vital signs, and psychosocial support.
- Assists with transferring, repositioning, walking, and uses correct transfer techniques and equipment.
- Provides range of motion and passive exercises as needed.
- Assists with food preparation and dining to create a positive dining experience; assists residents with meals and snacks, and provides water and supplements as appropriate.
- Supports providers and nursing staff with procedures when needed; documents resident interactions and outcomes related to care, behavior, activity, and dietary changes.
- Reports changing resident condition to the charge nurse and participates in wellness and recreational programs.
- May participate in departmental or organizational committees as needed.
- High school graduate or GED preferred, but not required.
- Minimum age of 16; prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred (6 months preferred, 3 months required).
- Mandatory Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or state-certified CNA in process within four months of start; CNA training and certification provided by the facility.
- QMAP certification may be required in Colorado facilities.
- Annual competency testing and continuing education: minimum 12 hours per year; maintain required certifications.
- If applicable, may be registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry and may be classified as Sanford Category II Driver where required.
