Overview

The Radiation Therapist applies ionizing radiation to patients in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist, Physicist, and Dosimetrist. This position functions under the authority of the Clinical Oncology Manager and reports to the Director of the Cancer Center. The Radiation Therapist assumes responsibility for all therapy modalities related to simulation and treatment of patients. Additionally, they may assist in the production of vaklok, molds, head immobilization devices, electron blocks, and CT simulations.

This Therapist collaborates with other therapists in the Cancer Care Center to manage the needs of the radiation therapy area. Responsibilities include maintaining the treatment schedule, ensuring proper supplies, equipment maintenance, accurate documentation, preparing administrative reports, following safety policies, and promoting teamwork and professionalism. The Therapist plays a vital role in the care of oncology patients and is expected to demonstrate professionalism, a positive attitude, and teamwork at all times.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy Technology Program (accredited by the Committee of Allied Health and Accreditation, AMA).
Licensure, registration, and/or certification: Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy (T). Certified CPR certification.
Additional skills/abilities preferred: Knowledge of Varian equipment and ARIA.
