Extruder Assistant (Manufacturing)
- Work with the Extrusion Operator to complete machine start-up, make necessary adjustments for temperature and die opening, and monitor finished product to ensure quality is acceptable.
- Periodically check product and various machining gauges, making necessary adjustments to maintain color, dimensions and uniformity.
- When necessary, change rolls of finished product, weigh the roll and record net weight on the production record, put the finished roll on a skid and band the skid together.
- Follow good manufacturing practices to ensure product safety, using care and caution in the operation of all machines for the safety of self, operators and helpers.
- Make changeovers when switching from one product run to another, which may require changing dies, polishing rolls or setting up a dryer for hygroscopic materials.
- Operate the grinder occasionally to prepare scrap for re‑use.
- Report any machine problems that cannot be readily repaired to the Extrusion Manager for assistance.
- Keep machinery and the work area neat and clean and complete required machine lubrication.
- Notify designated personnel of any machine problems and assist in their resolution.
- Intermittently stand 8‑12 hours daily on concrete floors.
- Occasionally lift various parts or materials in repairing machinery up to 50 lbs; lift much higher weights with mechanical and human assistance.
- Communicate verbally, have visual acuity for prints and plans, and demonstrate manual coordination and dexterity in the use of hand and power tools.
- Climb and work on or around machinery, walk, squat, crouch, turn, twist, stretch, climb steps, grab, pull, push, and perform repetitive movements and bending in awkward positions.
- Work in a typical manufacturing and production facility environment with continuous noise, material scent, bright work stations, and machinery with moving parts.
- High School Diploma or GED (preferred).
- 18 years of age or older.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Willing to work scheduled hours and required overtime.
- Pass a pre‑hire drug screen.
- Pass a criminal background investigation.
- Ability to communicate effectively and clearly, orally or in writing.
- Proficiency with using hand and power tools.
- Ability to read and understand manuals, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to work as part of a team and also independently.
