The Department of Communication & Journalism is seeking a motivated and professional student to assist with front office operations for the academic year with a chance of renewal. You’ll gain hands‑on experience with administrative tasks, front‑desk operations, AV operations and office organization, all while contributing to an exciting and student focused department.
Duties include, but are not limited to: managing the main office and/or AV office, assisting visitors, students, faculty, and staff, filing and organizing documents/files, managing mail distribution, inventory of office supplies, copying and scanning, running daily errands to a variety of office locations on main campus, and other items around C&J, general support of faculty/staff/students within the department and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.

- Basic computer skills
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office
- Printer/copier experience
- Office work experience
- Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours fall/spring semesters
- Must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress guidelines
- Experience supporting students, staff, faculty, and office environments in any capacity (tech support, event sign‑ins, flyers, emails, etc.)
- Comfortable answering phones, greeting guests, or managing front‑desk and AV office spaces.
- Familiarity with basic computer tasks such as typing, document formatting, using Adobe, Canva, and Microsoft Office.
- Understanding or willingness to learn camera equipment checkout processes and classroom technology troubleshooting.
- Strong attention to detail, eagerness to learn, ability to stay organized, and follow through with assigned tasks
- Strive for a positive, professional mindset.
- Be able to work at least four days a week. More days/hours are encouraged within the work‑study guidelines.
Work-Study
qualified individuals who can work in two to four-hour blocks of time.
