Visiting Assistant Professor – Landscape Architecture

The School of Architecture and Planning at the University of New Mexico is currently accepting applications for one Visiting Assistant Professor in Landscape Architecture. Best consideration date is December 1, 2025. The position will begin in January 2026. This is a non‑tenure track temporary appointment, renewable up to three years.

The School of Architecture and Planning welcomes candidates with teaching excellence in the field of Landscape Architecture technical courses, such as Grading and Drainage, AutoCAD for Landscape Architecture, Graphic Representation, and GIS. The successful candidate will have scholarship and/or experience in the related technical fields of civil engineering or equivalent as it relates to grading and drainage and will be equipped to teach mixed and separate courses with undergraduate and graduate students.

The candidate will be charged with creating an advanced track for student explorations in the technical aspects of landscape architecture such as modeling, 3D printing, and sensors. The candidate will also serve on department and school committees and participate in other department, school, and university activities. Our school thrives when our faculty broadens our perspectives and brings new conversations to our community.

Areas of expertise may include grading and drainage, AutoCAD for Landscape Architecture, and GIS, combined with a poetics of landscape analysis.

The Department of Landscape Architecture is housed in the award‑winning George Pearl Hall, designed by architect Antoine Predock, along with the departments of Architecture and Community and Regional Planning, and graduate programs in Historic Preservation and Regionalism. The spacious facilities have the latest design and fabrication tools, including digital fabrication and conventional wood and metal shops.

The Department of Landscape Architecture offers a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, for which we seek accreditation in the coming two years, and a professionally accredited Master of Landscape Architecture. In addition to these degree programs, the School of Architecture and Planning also hosts three community‑focused research centers:
The Design and Planning Assistance Center (DPAC), Research Center for Raza Planning (RCRP), and the Indigenous Design + Planning Institute (+Pi).
