- Serve as open-rank clinician-educator in the Transfusion Medicine Division within the Department of Pathology at UNMH, with an academic appointment at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine at a rank commensurate with experience.
- Share clinical coverage and educational responsibilities with the current Transfusion Division team, including didactics and service-related teaching for pathology and laboratory medicine residents, and interdepartmental teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows (e.g., anesthesia, internal medicine, nephrology, hematology/oncology).
- Collaborate in opportunities for laboratory directorships.
- Work in cooperation with Tri Core Reference Laboratories to provide medical oversight for transfusion service operations (Tri Core is New Mexico’s largest reference laboratory).
- Support the Transfusion Medicine Division’s operations for the University of New Mexico Health and Sciences Center, including CAP and AABB accredited blood bank activities and apheresis services.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Hold an M.D./D.O. degree or the equivalent
- Board certified/eligible in Clinical Pathology and Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine from the American Board of Pathology (ABP)
- Be eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in New Mexico
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three or more years of experience in transfusion medicine and apheresis
- Three or more years of experience in a teaching/academic setting
- A record of scholarly achievement related to transfusion medicine
- Prior experience with laboratory coagulation and hemostasis testing
- A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the university's mission to serve local and global communities
